PANews reported on March 9 that according to Cointelegraph, despite the pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on El Salvador to stop accumulating decentralized value storage assets, El Salvador has still purchased 13 bitcoins since March 1. According to the Salvador Bitcoin Office, the country's Bitcoin library holds more than 6,105 BTC, which is worth more than US$527 million at current prices.
In December 2024, El Salvador reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund to obtain a $1.4 billion loan from the organization. As part of the agreement, the Salvadoran government agreed to remove BTC from legal tender in the country and reduce public sector involvement in Bitcoin.
