Former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton Appointed Interim U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York

PANews reported on April 23 that according to Cointelegraph, former US SEC Chairman Jay Clayton has been appointed as interim US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, replacing Damian Williams, who played an important role in several high-profile cryptocurrency cases. The appointment is temporary because Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer used a "blue list" on April 16 to block Clayton's confirmation vote. Senators can use "blue lists" to block US prosecutors or district court judicial nominees in their states. Clayton can serve as interim US Attorney for a maximum of 120 days without Senate approval. Clayton's temporary position will last until around August 20. After that, he will need to obtain approval from the Senate vote or obtain a temporary extension from the Manhattan Federal Court.
