PANews reported on January 21 that according to CoinDesk, Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive who was kidnapped and illegally imprisoned in Nigeria for 8 months, said that he would be honored to serve the United States again and fight cryptocurrency crimes under the new Trump administration. Gambaryan has served as Binance's financial crime compliance director for the past two years. He was a federal agent and a member of the federal government's early elite cryptocurrency tracking group, which was involved in some high-profile investigations during Trump's last term.
Gambaryan has been recommended for several important positions, such as the head of crypto assets at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission or a leadership position in the FBI's cyber division. According to people familiar with the matter, the recommendation from the Trump transition team came from people associated with the Bitcoin 2024 Nashville conference attended by Trump, such as event organizer David Bailey and Kraken's head of strategic initiatives Tracy Hoyos-López. When asked about this potential move, Binance CEO Richard Teng said in an interview: "As of now, Gambaryan is still our employee, so let's see what his intentions are. I don't know what he thinks. I don't know the process of the U.S. government."
