France fines Apple €150 million over iOS data consent rules

PANews reported on March 31 that according to Bloomberg, the French antitrust agency fined Apple 150 million euros (about 162 million US dollars) because Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) system did not comply with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) privacy rules.

The French antitrust agency pointed out that Apple's ATT framework is "neither necessary nor proportional" and its implementation method is "abusive" in the sense of competition law. The ATT system forces applications to display multiple pop-up windows, complicating the user experience and making it impossible for advertisers to effectively comply with GDPR regulations.
