PANews reported on February 28 that according to Bitcoin.com, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino recently publicly stated that he is a Bitcoin maximalist and predicted that one day in the future, Bitcoin will surpass all legal currencies. He mentioned in the podcast that by then, Tether's stable currency USDT will lose its meaning of existence. Ardoino believes that all legal currencies will eventually collapse due to their inherent defects, leading to a reset of the global financial system, legal currencies will face hyperinflation, USDT will become useless, and Bitcoin will become the only currency used in the world.

Although Tether is currently the world's largest stablecoin by market value, Ardoino admitted that USDT is only a transitional product designed to help economies in economic distress gradually transition to a Bitcoin-dominated future. He emphasized that Bitcoin is the only currency that can withstand any disaster in the next 2000 years, and its resilience far exceeds that of other currencies, including USDT.

While this envisioned future is still far off, Tether’s business model has been shrinking due to strict regulation. With the implementation of Europe’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, Tether has lost its prominent position among exchanges serving European countries. Still, Ardoino said Tether’s focus remains on emerging markets, which still lack easy access to dollars to deal with the economic problems common to fiat currencies. The company appears to be preparing for the fate Ardoino predicts, having been expanding and diversifying its portfolio. In recent months, Tether has been promoting investments in green energy, artificial intelligence, and even Latin American agriculture. “I believe that products like USDT should exist as long as there is demand,” Ardoino concluded.
