PANews reported on May 28 that according to Cryptonews, Seoul police arrested a Russian man in his 20s in Busan on suspicion of participating in a violent robbery disguised as a cryptocurrency transaction. On May 21, the criminal gang lured 10 Koreans to a hotel in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, in the name of P2P transactions. Two of them were threatened with imitation pistols, beaten with telescopic batons and tied up after being lured into the room.

The police seized imitation guns, bulletproof vests and other tools used in the crime in the room where the crime occurred, with the amount involved being about $730,000. At least two accomplices have fled the country and Interpol has intervened in their pursuit. The arrested suspects are being interrogated and may face serious criminal charges. This case reflects that the security risks of cryptocurrency transactions are extending from the digital field to offline violent crimes.
