Russian law enforcement seizes illegal crypto mining farm at Siberian orphanage

PANews reported on March 14 that according to Russian media reports, the Procuratorate of Bohan District, Irkutsk Oblast, seized an illegal cryptocurrency mining farm in a three-story orphanage in Kazachiye Village, and law enforcement officers seized 96 mining equipment. The building was originally an educational institution, but it has been closed. A non-profit organization operated a mine here without permission, violated electricity and fire safety regulations, did not maintain the equipment, and did not install a fire alarm system.

The court ruled to dismantle all mining equipment and stop illegal use of land. The prosecutor has filed an administrative lawsuit against the head of the organization. Irkutsk Oblast attracts a large number of miners due to its low electricity prices and cold climate. Although the government plans to completely ban mining by 2031, illegal mines continue to appear in various buildings and have become a key target of crackdown.
