Trump to tighten control over independent federal agencies' regulatory functions

PANews reported on February 20 that according to the Financial Times, US President Trump will strengthen control over independent federal agencies. This is Trump's latest move to strengthen control over government agencies.

The White House said in a statement that late Tuesday, Trump signed an executive order "to constrain independent agencies," ordering them to submit draft regulations for review. Trump will also set "performance standards" for agencies, which must "consult" with the White House on "priorities and strategic plans." The agencies targeted by the executive order include the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The White House said the Fed's monetary policy functions are not restricted by the executive order, but its regulatory functions are restricted.
