PANews reported on January 22 that according to the Financial Times, Google is investing more than $1 billion in Anthropic, a competitor of OpenAI, to boost its position in the startup as Silicon Valley giants compete to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence systems. According to four people familiar with the matter, Google has committed about $2 billion to Anthropic and is currently increasing its stake in the group.
Anthropic is also close to raising another $2 billion in funding from Silicon Valley venture capital firms led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, according to multiple people familiar with the matter, in a deal that is expected to triple the startup’s valuation to about $60 billion.
