11月11日晚間，FTX官方發佈公告稱，FTX US、Alameda Research Ltd和大約130家其他附屬公司（合稱“FTX集團”）已根據《美國破產法》第二章在特拉華州地區開始自願程序，以啟動一個有序的程序，為所有全球利益相關者的利益審查和貨幣化資產。 John Ray已被任命為FTX集團的首席執行官。 Sam Bankman Fried已辭去首席執行官一職，並將繼續協助過渡。據悉，FTX 的新任首席執行官John J. Ray, III，是當時辦理安然公司清算時的芝加哥律師。安然醜聞案曝光於2001年10月，既是美國歷史上最大破產案，也是最大的審計失敗事件。
據了解，第十一章主要適用大型企業，它的目的是製定重組計劃，可以使得大型企業免於解體，並在未來逐步償還債權人。有通俗的解釋稱，這種情況下可以理解為債務人躺在手術台上對債權人說，醫生我覺得我還可以再搶救一下，然後出具自救方案，即重組方案，也會進一步引入投資人，讓公司東山再起獲得盤活資產取得現金流的機會。在重組過程中，擔保債權人是喪失優先受償權的，其債權的擔保抵押物都暫時不能實現抵押權，優先滿足企業的生產經營需要。這也是債權人為了獲得更完全的債務清償所做出的讓步。
據向法院提交的法庭文件，Alameda Research的資產和負債估值都在100億至500億美元之間，債權人超過10萬人，這一負債的估值規模超出所有人的預料。
隨後，SBF發推文稱，今天在美國提交了FTX、FTX US 和Alameda 的破產法第11 章訴訟程序。這並不一定意味著這些公司或它們主要為客戶提供價值和資金的能力的終結，並相信新的CEO Ray有能力做的最好。我將努力盡快明確用戶恢復方面的情況。我很快就會寫一篇更完整的關於這部劇的文章。
法院文件顯示共有134家公司將參與破產重組，包括其在香港、日本、歐洲等全球多地的子公司，以下子公司不包括在第二章訴訟中：Ledgerx LLC、FTXDigital Markets有限公司FTX Australia Pty Ltd和FTX Express Pay Ltd。
