Metaplanet Transfers $265M in Bitcoin, Unrealized Loss Reaches $1.4 Billion

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet moved 4,176 BTC (about $265 million) over seven hours, raising market concerns as its overall unrealized loss hit $1.4 billion, or a 34% decline. The firm has accumulated 43,000 BTC at an average cost of $96,191. While the transfers do not necessarily indicate a sale, the sizable movement under such heavy losses has drawn attention from on-chain analysts.



Harmony Exploited: 4 Billion ONE Illegally Minted, Exchanges Freeze Funds

Layer-1 blockchain Harmony suffered an exploit that allowed an attacker to mint 4 billion ONE tokens (about 26% of total supply) through empty blocks. Of these, 2.8 billion ONE were quickly sent to exchanges during the subsequent price crash. Harmony said it is working with exchanges to freeze and block the funds, while exploring repair and rollback options. The incident temporarily halted the network's bridge service, and validators have been asked to upgrade to the latest patch.



South Korea Tightens Single-Stock Leveraged ETF Rules from August 19

South Korea's Financial Services Commission will implement stricter rules for single-stock leveraged ETFs and ETNs starting August 19. In addition to existing requirements of a minimum 30 million won deposit and three hours of pre-education, first-time retail investors must now complete a simulation trading test. The tracking error management range will be narrowed to 2% for domestic ETFs and 5% for overseas products, tightening oversight amid growing risk concerns.



Temasek Considers Direct Investment in Samsung and SK Hynix

Singapore state investor Temasek is reportedly planning direct investments in South Korean chip giants Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, sending both stocks up more than 8% in a strong rebound. The Kospi index jumped as much as 5.1%. Temasek is said to be evaluating timing through its internal investment team, signaling growing interest in Asia’s semiconductor sector.



Ravencoin Suffers Consensus Attack, Price Hits All-Time Low

Ravencoin experienced a consensus vulnerability exploit that caused its price to slump to an all-time low of $0.002754, a 22% drop. The bug allowed an invalid block to be accepted, and major mining pools are now building a competing chain to exclude the affected fork. A three-day chain reorganization could reverse transactions after block 4,487,775. South Korean exchanges Upbit and Bitget have suspended RVN deposits and withdrawals.

Ex-Binance Australia Head Eyes Relaunch of Network School Malaysia Campus

Former Binance Australia CEO Jeff Yew, a Malaysian crypto investor, is in preliminary talks to take over and relaunch the Network School campus in Forest City, Malaysia, which was ordered shut in July. Yew aims to adopt a “Malaysia-first” approach to cultivate local tech founders and make Johor a global AI and blockchain hub. GAC-Backed Humanoid Robot Firm Huilun Tech Raises over 100 Million Yuan

Huilun Technology, a humanoid robotics company incubated by Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), secured over 100 million yuan in funding from investors including CRRC Guochuang Fund and CMB International. The fresh capital will be used to optimize AI models and expand commercial applications in automotive production lines. GAC launched its robotics initiative in 2022 and has since introduced four embodied robot models.



Binance Stablecoin Reserves Drop Below $42 Billion, Lowest in a Year

Stablecoin reserves on Binance have fallen to $41.9 billion, dipping below the $42 billion mark for the first time since October 2025, according to CryptoQuant. Binance holds over 70% of total exchange stablecoin reserves, but the metric has been declining since November 2025, reflecting reduced market exposure and sustained bearish sentiment among investors.



Korean Brokerages Slash Samsung and SK Hynix Price Targets by Nearly 30%

Kiwoom Securities and other South Korean brokerages have cut target prices for Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, with adjustments of nearly 30% in some cases. The downgrades reflect growing concerns that the memory chip cycle has peaked. Despite the cuts, analysts maintained 'buy' ratings on both stocks, underscoring the uncertain outlook for the tech sector.
