Peter, the founder of the previously viral open-source AI agent assistant OpenClaw, recently made a bold assertion on the Y Combinator podcast that the era of apps is over and 80% of existing apps will be eliminated.
He gave an example: because the AI Agent will proactively record what you eat and what you like, and will proactively adjust your fitness plan, there is no longer a need for fitness apps. In addition, to-do list apps have also disappeared; you only need to say one sentence to the AI, and it will automatically remind you of everything.
In Peter's view, any app designed solely for manually "recording" and "managing" data will become redundant. AI can help you manage this data better and more easily. Those that will survive are the models themselves and a few applications that must rely on hardware sensors.
Are you ready for this "app extinction" triggered by agents?
