PANews reported on February 25th that, according to Axios, the U.S. Department of Defense has informed Anthropic that if it does not provide unrestricted access to Claude by Friday, it may invoke the Defense Production Act or classify it as a "supply chain risk." Vitalik Buterin subsequently stated that if Anthropic adheres to its two red lines of "not developing fully autonomous weapons" and "not conducting mass surveillance of U.S. citizens," even if it faces consequences, its evaluation will be improved. He stated that fully autonomous weapons and mass privacy violations should be restricted, and he supports providing only general open-source model capabilities rather than additional support.
Vitalik voiced his support for Anthropic's adherence to military red lines.
