PANews reported on April 3 that, according to CNN, former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stated that Tehran should use its "advantage" in the war to push for a "comprehensive peace agreement to end 47 years of hostility with Washington." In a commentary, he wrote, "Tehran should use its advantage, not to continue fighting, but to declare victory and reach an agreement that both ends the current conflict and prevents future conflicts." He stated that the peace agreement should include restrictions on Iran's nuclear capabilities and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the lifting of all economic sanctions against Iran. Zarif described this as an agreement that "Washington would not have accepted before, but may now accept." Zarif served as Iran's foreign minister from 2013 to 2021.
