PANews reported on April 7 that, according to The New York Times, Argentine President Javier Milei promoted a cryptocurrency called $Libra last year. The coin experienced a surge followed by a rapid collapse, causing investors to lose millions of dollars and triggering scandals and investigations. Milei previously claimed he had no connection to the digital currency and was merely promoting a private project.
However, newly discovered court documents reveal that Milei spoke with the founders of $Libra seven times late at night in 2025, around the time he posted content related to $Libra on social media platform X. Furthermore, newly discovered message records suggest that Milei regularly received funds from one of the founders while serving as a member of Congress.
Milei has not yet responded to this. He is listed as a "person of interest" in the federal prosecutor's investigation, but has not yet been formally charged with any crime.
Previous reports indicated that judicial documents revealed the Libra token scam may have involved an agreement to pay Argentine President Milley $5 million .
