Iran has pledged to ensure unimpeded passage for Russian ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

PANews reported on April 21 that, according to CCTV, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi held a telephone conversation on April 20. Iran briefed Russia on its position regarding three issues: the US violation of the ceasefire, the illegal maritime blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and the seizure of an Iranian container ship. Iran confirmed that it would do everything possible to ensure the unimpeded passage of Russian ships and cargo through the Strait of Hormuz. Russia emphasized that the ceasefire must be maintained and that it should be observed within the parameters initially coordinated and announced by Pakistan, the mediator. Russia stated that diplomatic efforts must continue to prevent the situation from escalating out of control and to avoid a recurrence of armed confrontation. Russia reiterated its willingness to assist Iran and the Gulf Arab states in reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.
