PANews reported on May 5 that, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a spokesperson for the DPRK Foreign Ministry, in response to a reporter's question on May 3 regarding the US's hype of so-called "cyber threats" from North Korea, stated that US government agencies, media outlets, and related organizations have recently attempted to spread erroneous perceptions of North Korea to the international community, linking all cyber fraud activities around the world to North Korea.
A spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry stated that it was unreasonable for the United States to portray itself as a "victim," and accused the US of using its control of global IT infrastructure to conduct indiscriminate cyberattacks against other countries. The spokesperson further stated that the rhetoric surrounding the so-called "cyber threat" is a continuation of the US's hostile policy towards North Korea, aimed at spreading disinformation and damaging North Korea's image for political purposes.
The spokesperson stated that North Korea will protect cyberspace from malicious acts and opposes using cyber issues as a political tool to infringe upon sovereignty and interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. North Korea will not tolerate confrontational attempts by hostile forces, including in cyberspace, and will take necessary measures to safeguard national interests and the rights of its citizens.
