DeFiLlama's crypto media outlet DL News has announced it will shut down at the end of May.

PANews reported on May 8th that crypto media outlet DL News announced its impending closure. DL News stated that it launched in 2022 as the news arm of DeFiLlama, and while it was intended to be a profitable business, this goal was not achieved. DL News explained that a major internal conflict within DeFiLlama in early 2023 led to its de facto separation from the parent company, although it retained its name and brand. Simultaneously, the media landscape deteriorated sharply, making traditional subscription models unsustainable. DL Research, launched in 2024, achieved 270% revenue growth in 2025, exceeding seven-figure annual sales, with clients including several leading crypto companies. However, overall traffic to crypto and tech media shrank significantly, and AI accelerated the collapse of search distribution and spawned a large amount of parasitic aggregated content, making it difficult for DL News to reach a sufficient audience. The company began layoffs in mid-April and notified employees on May 1st that it would be closing at the end of the month.
