PANews reported on May 8th that Coinbase Support tweeted that Coinbase experienced a service outage on May 7th (Eastern Time). Around 8 PM Eastern Time, a surge in error rates was detected across multiple services due to a failure in several Availability Zones, including use1-az4, within the us-east-1 region of AWS in the US East. The official statement indicated that while their system is normally capable of handling single Availability Zone outages and recovering quickly, the multi-zone impact caused a prolonged interruption to core trading services. Users were unable to trade normally while AWS was fixing temperature-controlled and other managed services. All issues have now been resolved, and all marketplaces and applications have reopened. Coinbase will conduct a detailed internal analysis after receiving an official review from AWS.
