Telegram usernames and premium phone numbers sold for millions of dollars, triggering phishing attacks.

PANews reported on May 13th that, according to Bits.media, several Telegram usernames and virtual numbers recently sold at record prices in TON tokens. Shortly after, scammers attempted to steal other desirable numbers. Last weekend, an anonymous buyer purchased the Telegram username @danbao for 1.58 million TON (approximately $2.1 million), setting a new record for the most expensive transaction on the platform. Subsequently, @boss sold for 500,000 USDT, the desirable number +888 8222 sold for 520,000 TON (approximately $650,000), and +888 8899 sold for 423,900 TON.

However, hours after the transaction, attackers launched a targeted attack on the NFT trading platform Getgems using counterfeit USDT. A Chinese collector lost the valuable phone number +888 8321, worth over $800,000. Additionally, a crypto trader lost approximately $200,000 across three networks—Ethereum, Base, and BSC—after creating a wallet through the Telegram bot SIGMA. Security companies point out that criminals are increasingly using Telegram bots and mini-programs for crypto theft.
