PANews reported on May 13 that members of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee submitted over 100 amendments to the Clarity Act, some of which, proposed by several Democratic senators, are considered "anti-DeFi amendments" by the DeFi Education Fund (DEF). DEF claims these amendments, from senators such as Cortez Masto, Andy Kim, Chris Van Hollen, Elizabeth Warren, and Jack Reed, could weaken core protections in the bill regarding the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA), non-controlling software developers, DeFi front-ends, and tokenization provisions, while expanding BSA/AML compliance obligations for developers and digital asset companies. DEF is urging its supporters to lobby senators against these amendments before the bill formally enters the vote.
The Clarity Act amendments have been criticized for containing several "anti-DeFi" provisions.
