PANews reported on May 19th, citing TechCrunch, that AI social app Status AI has completed a total of $17 million in seed and Series A funding rounds. Investors include General Catalyst, Y Combinator, LightShed Partners, and Abstract. Status AI focuses on "immersive social entertainment," allowing users to create personalities within the app and role-play in any fictional or real world, experiencing scenarios such as "being a star" or "running for president," and interacting with others in single-player or multiplayer modes. The platform's worlds and characters are user-generated, with over 13 million worlds and over 5 million character profiles already created. The company stated that early users were primarily young women, and the new funding will be used for platform expansion and collaborations with film and streaming organizations to expand IP and audience reach.
