OpenAI invests $234 million to establish a new AI lab in Singapore.

PANews reported on May 20th that OpenAI is establishing an artificial intelligence lab in Singapore through a multi-year partnership with the government to support the country's AI development strategy. OpenAI stated in a press release on Wednesday that it has agreed to invest over S$300 million (approximately US$234 million) to build its first applied AI lab outside the United States. In the coming years, its technical team in Singapore will expand to over 200 people. OpenAI has already established an office in Singapore since 2024. The company is currently forging partnerships with governments worldwide to maintain its leading edge over competitors such as Anthropic and Google. Singapore has listed artificial intelligence as a strategic priority.
