Meta plans to release independent AI applications in the second quarter and explore paid subscriptions

PANews reported on February 28 that Meta Platforms (META.O) plans to release a separate Meta AI APP in the second quarter, according to people familiar with the matter. The Meta AI chatbot was launched in September 2023, and the company positioned it as a generative AI digital assistant that can provide responses and create images based on user prompts in existing applications. The company also plans to test a paid subscription service for Meta AI, similar to the way OpenAI and Microsoft charge users monthly fees. Meta's chief financial officer said in January that while Meta AI's efforts are focused on "building an excellent consumer experience," "there are quite obvious profit opportunities here over time, including paid recommendations and premium services."
