The UK will review cryptocurrency donations as part of an investigation into political party financing.

PANews reported on December 17th, citing Bloomberg, that the UK will investigate the role of cryptocurrencies as part of a broader review of the country's political financing laws, triggered by a bribery case involving a Reform Party politician. On Tuesday, Communities Secretary Steve Reed told the House of Commons that the review will examine foreign funding interference in British politics, with a report due by the end of March. The findings will be incorporated into election and democracy-related legislation the government plans to push forward next year.

Previously, there were concerns within the UK that its democratic system was vulnerable to foreign donations and bribes, and this announcement of the review was based on these concerns. Last month, Nathan Gill, former leader of the Reform Party in Wales, pleaded guilty to accepting bribes while serving as a Member of the European Parliament in exchange for making statements favorable to Russia, and was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison.
