在推特、脸书等社交媒体封禁现任美国总统特朗普的账号后，特朗普的支持者大量涌入通讯应用程序Telegram，使得该应用的下载量升至美国第二。据英国《电讯报》、俄罗斯卫星通讯社12日报道，据数据公司Sensor Tower的消息，从1月6日至10日，Telegram在美国的下载量约为54.5万次，几乎是上周同期的三倍。而11日，在社交软件Parler下架之前，该平台已有帖子敦促用户改用Telegram。据此前报道，1月8日，特朗普的推特被永久封禁后，谷歌等手机应用平台开始对特朗普支持者大量聚集的Parler重拳出击。Parler在美国有“右翼推特”之称，该平台称自己不进行审查，是推特的“公平替代品”。《电讯报》援引美国马里兰大学信息研究教授珍·戈德贝克观点称，与Parler相比，Telegram可能成为特朗普支持者的“长期聚居地”，因为它不太可能被下架。据悉，Telegram由俄罗斯兄弟尼古拉·杜洛夫和帕维尔·杜洛夫于2013年创办，后者是俄罗斯知名社交网站Vkontakte的创始人。美国国会6日发生骚乱后，据美媒Axios统计，截至10日，已有13家社交媒体平台宣布封禁或限制特朗普账户和与其相关的内容，包括推特、脸书、谷歌、YouTube等全球知名互联网巨头。
