Korean star Jun Ji-hyun's husband Choi Joon-hyuk faces huge losses due to his investment in Wemade, a listed company involved in blockchain gaming business

PANews reported on June 7 that according to Korean media Chosun, Alpha Asset Management, a private equity fund operator that holds Wemade shares worth 35 billion won, is suffering from growing losses. As the virtual currency WEMIX that once boosted Wemade's stock price has now been removed from Korean cryptocurrency exchanges such as Upbit and Bithumb, hopes for a stock price rebound have become slim. The CEO of Alpha Asset Management is Choi Joon Hyuk (최준혁, Choi Joon Hyuk), the husband of the famous Korean star Jun Ji-hyun.

Wemix is a virtual currency issued by South Korean game company Wemade through its subsidiary, mainly targeting the blockchain game ecosystem. Alpha Asset Management purchased Wemade shares worth 15 billion won and 20 billion won in October 2023 and January 2024, respectively. The company's operating loss in the first quarter was as high as 11.3 billion won, and its stock price has fallen by more than 25% this year.
