PANews reported on December 31 that UBS stated that the world's largest silver ETF, iShares Silver Trust (SLV), was one of the main factors driving the growth in ETF trading volume. SLV's trading volume hit a new high for the year on three out of the past four days, with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) raising margin requirements triggering excessive participation from retail investors. Monday saw significant outflows, while Tuesday saw a return to equilibrium.
UBS: CME Group's margin requirement increase triggers a surge in retail investors, causing a sharp rise in trading volume for the world's largest silver ETF.
