SBF's crisis communications manager quits after Tucker Carlson's surprise prison interview

PANews reported on March 7 that according to The Block, citing Business Insider, after FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF)'s prison interview with Tucker Carlson was released without notice on Thursday, SBF's crisis public relations manager has resigned. Mark Botnick has represented SBF since the collapse of his cryptocurrency exchange FTX in November 2022. After learning of the interview, he resigned on Thursday. This is the second interview SBF has given since breaking his two-year public silence after going to prison. The interviews appear to be part of his attempt to obtain a presidential pardon. In both interviews, SBF praised President Trump, criticized the previous Biden administration, and argued that he began to take the Republican Party more seriously after his failed approach to former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler.

Before his arrest, SBF was probably best known as a billionaire who practiced "effective altruism" and donated huge sums of money to Democratic politicians. In the year between FTX's billions of dollars and his court trial, SBF gave countless media interviews and sometimes got himself into trouble. At one point, he even showed a reporter his ex-girlfriend's diary and was jailed for potential witness interference. Botnick reportedly worked with SBF during this period. The PR manager was also allegedly caught off guard when SBF posted on X about the Trump administration's attempt to fire federal employees.
