PANews reported on January 8th that, according to DL News, Renan Santos, founder of the Brazilian political party "Missão" and presidential candidate, stated that a "national Bitcoin reserve" is feasible and plans to include it in his campaign platform. He indicated that the experience of El Salvador should be referenced, and Bitcoin should be included in the national treasury reserves. The Brazilian Congress held public hearings on a strategic Bitcoin reserve, and Congressman Eros Biondini submitted a draft bill in November 2024 recommending that the Ministry of Finance purchase Bitcoin and other "secure" crypto assets. Santos claimed that blockchain technology could be used for anti-corruption efforts in the public sector and emphasized that his political views oppose those of incumbent President Lula and candidate Flávio Bolsonaro.
