Bitcoin network transaction activity drops to lowest level since October 2023

PANews reported on June 9 that according to The Block, the seven-day average transaction volume of the Bitcoin network dropped to 317,000 last Friday, a new low since October 2023. Data shows that on June 1, only 256,000 transactions were confirmed in the block on a single day. At the same time, many transactions with a standard fee rate of less than 1 sat/vB appeared on the chain and were packaged by miners, including a 0.1 sat/vB ultra-low fee transaction (total fee of about US$0.01) submitted by Mononaut, the founder of Mempool. After being stranded in the memory pool for a month, the transaction was processed by the mining company MARA through a dedicated channel Slipstream.

On June 6, 31 Bitcoin core developers jointly signed an open letter opposing nodes filtering low-fee or non-standard transactions, emphasizing the essential nature of Bitcoin as a censorship-resistant system. Developers pointed out that forcing users to use private channels such as Slipstream will undermine the decentralized nature. This position was opposed by Samson Mow, the founder of Jan3, and others, who believed that the core developers were removing the protection mechanism for spam transactions.
