11月2日，香港金管局总裁余伟文于香港金融科技周活动上表示，金融科技可以提升传统银行的服务质素等，虚拟银行的出现虽然增加竞争，但有效改善用户体验及降低成本，而传统银行亦因而减低用户收费并改善其数码平台服务等。余伟文称，金管局正与泰国央行共同研究以区块链为基础的数字货币网络，期望可令跨境支付更有效率，下一步将研究不同的应用场景。
