据Decrypt报道，美国SEC针对Ripple的诉讼提交的文件显示，Ripple与区块链公司R3曾在两年前签署了一项协议，该协议授予R3购买XRP的权利，使R3可以选择以折扣价购买最多50亿个XRP。随后，这两家公司因此协议陷入了纠纷，纠纷起因为R3未履行营销义务，后于2018年9月和解。该文件还显示，R3在2019年行使了该协议中的权力，购买了10.4亿个XRP。
