PANews reported on March 11 that according to Decrypt, the California authorities have stepped up their crackdown on cryptocurrency fraud, shutting down 26 fraudulent cryptocurrency websites and revealing that consumers lost more than $4.6 million in 2024. In a statement on Monday, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) said that with the help of its "Cryptocurrency Scam Tracker," seven new types of scams were identified. The tracker has processed more than 2,600 complaints, exposing fake Bitcoin mining, cryptocurrency recruitment scams and cryptocurrency game scams, as well as misleading artificial intelligence investment plans. DFPI Commissioner KC Mohseni said in a statement: "As cryptocurrency scams evolve, DFPI's cryptocurrency scam tracker helps consumers stay vigilant."
