PANews reported on January 19 that according to Bloomberg, many institutions believe that Trump's issuance of the meme coin TRUMP is unethical. Danielle Brian, executive director of the nonpartisan Project on Government Oversight, said that memecoin is usually not related to any underlying business, so it is highly speculative for investors and potentially profitable for founders, which further breaks the boundaries. Brian said: "Any move by the Trump Organization to show that they are concerned about potential conflicts (especially conflicts involving foreign governments) seems to completely undermine its efforts.
Other groups raising concerns include the nonprofit Campaign Legal Center and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which unsuccessfully sued Trump during his first term for violating the Constitution’s prohibition on foreign gifts and compensation.
“The clear difference with cryptocurrency is how quickly you can get your windfall,” said Kedric Payne, general counsel for the Campaign Legal Center.
