Kraken warns: Crypto conference participants generally lack basic security awareness and are easily targeted by criminals

PANews June 6 news, according to Cointelegraph, the security team of the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken pointed out that participants in industry conferences generally lack basic security awareness. Security director Nick Percoco said in a blog on June 5 that a large number of participants were found to leave unlocked laptops and mobile phones at random, and wallet notifications popped up in real time, making them easy targets for criminals. Percoco warned that scammers often carry out attacks through "charging hijacking" (malicious USB ports) and fake WiFi networks. He suggested that participants use temporary wallets with only a small amount of funds and avoid discussing transaction details in public. The security team also found that some participants openly talked about high-value transactions in non-conference venues such as hotels, while wearing conference badges containing personal information.

Kraken stressed that cryptocurrency users should always keep their devices locked and be alert to potential risks such as QR code replacement. Percoco reminded that industry events gather a large number of technical personnel, including those with hacker capabilities, and an unencrypted connection may cause asset loss.
