PANews reported on August 20th that, according to the Jindun Guang'an WeChat account, public security authorities in Guang'an City, Sichuan Province, recently reported that criminals were promoting the "digital RMB" to the elderly in crowded places such as stadiums, using the guise of "state endorsement and central bank cooperation" as a pretext. They were also recruiting promoters and collecting personal identification and communication information, potentially in an attempt to defraud the public. Police reminded the public that the digital RMB is not a target for speculation, and that red envelopes related to it can only be redeemed through formal financial and government channels. The public should be wary of the risks of personal information leaks and financial losses.
