미국 SEC(증권거래위원회)가 리플 소송과 관련 항소하기로 결정한 가운데, 리플 CEO 브래드 갈링하우스, CLO 스튜어트 알데로티는 이에 대해 비판했다. 갈링하우스는 SEC의 항소가 세금 낭비이며, XRP의 비증권 지위는 항소 여부와 관계 없이 변하지 않는다고 강조했다. 알데로티는 이 사건에서 피해자나 손실이 없으며, SEC가 암호화폐 산업을 상대로 법적 전쟁을 계속하고 있다고 지적했다. 그러면서 교차항소(cross appeal)를 제기할지 검토 중이라고 밝혔다. 교차항소는 한쪽 당사자가 항소를 제기하면 상대편도 이에 대응해 항소를 제기하는 것을 의미한다. 앞서 미국 법원은 암호화폐 거래소에서 개인에게 판매된 XRP는 증권법 위반 사례가 아니라고 판결한 바 있다. 단 리플이 기관투자자에게 직접 XRP를 판매한 행위는 미등록 증권 판매에 해당한다고 판단해 1.25억 달러 과징금을 부과했었다.
