리플 최고법률책임자(CLO) 스튜어트 알데로티가 X를 통해 "미국 증권거래위원회(SEC)의 관할권은 증권거래만 포함한다. 간단한 자산 매각은 규제할 수 없다. 금광에 대한 계약상 권리, 소유권, 지분이 있는 골드바 판매는 증권거래에 해당될 가능성이 높다. 반면 판매 후 권리, 의무가 없는 골드바의 경우 단순한 자산 매각으로 SEC는 이를 규제할 수 없다"고 말했다. 이어 "암호화폐 토큰이 잠재적으로 증권에서 비증권으로 진화할 수 있다는 이론이 주장되고 있으나, 이는 법적 근거가 없는 조작될 오류일 뿐"이라고 강조했다.
