포춘크립토가 "미국 전 연방 검사 레나토 마리오티(Renato Mariotti)에 따르면 법무부 산하 마샬국은 다크웹 실크로드 창립자 로스 울브리히트(Ross Ulbricht)에 유죄 판결이 내려진 직후인 2014년, 그가 소유했던 14.4만 BTC를 경매로 매도했다"고 보도했다. 정확한 매도 시점은 알려지지 않았으나, 당시 평균 매도가는 334 달러로, 총 4800만 달러 상당이다. 이는 현재 비트코인 가치(140억 달러)의 0.5%에 불과한 수준이다.
