미국 재무부 해외자산통제국(OFAC)이 암호화폐 믹싱 프로토콜 토네이도캐시(TORN)를 특별 관리(SDN) 리스트에서 삭제한 가운데, 코인베이스 CEO 브라이언 암스트롱이 "그 누구도 악당이 암호화폐를 악용하는 것을 보고싶지 않을 것이다. 그러나 프라이버시는 법을 준수하는 사용자에게 매우 중요한 기능이다. 오픈소스 코드는 제재할 수 없다(언론의 자유과 같은 문제). 이 문제가 해결돼 기쁘다"고 X를 통해 말했다. 이어 "재무부와 협력해 미국 법과 가치에 부합하는 방식으로 암호화폐의 0.1%(현금 혹 은행 시스템보다 훨씬 작음) 불법 활동을 퇴치하길 원한다"고 덧붙였다.
