세이(Sei) 재단이 블록체인에 유전자 데이터를 적용하기 위해 유전체학 기업 23andMe를 인수하는 방안을 고려 중이라고 코인데스크가 보도했다. 해당 기업은 캘리포니아주에 본사를 둔 개인 유전체학 및 생명공학기술 기업으로 1500만 명의 유전자 정보를 보유한 것으로 알려졌다. 최근 챕터11 파산보호(기업회생)를 신청했다. 세이 재단은 "해당 인수 건은 탈중앙화 과학(DeSci)을 위한 도박"이라며 "유전자 데이터 보안은 국가 안보 차원의 문제다. 23andMe가 재정적 어려움을 겪고 있는 만큼, 이는 중요하다. 그러나 동시에 이는 단순히 기업을 살리는 차원이 아닌, 사용자가 자신의 가장 개인적인 데이터를 직접 컨트롤 할 수 있는 미래를 구축하는 길"이라고 설명했다.
