PANews reported on May 8 that Sam Altman tweeted that OpenAI appointed Fidji Simo as the "Application Department CEO" and he will report directly to Altman. Altman will continue to serve as the CEO of OpenAI and further focus on research, computing power and security. Simo was a Facebook executive and the leader of products such as Facebook Live. He is also the chairman of the Metrodora Foundation, a neuroimmunology research institute. Fidji Simo joined the OpenAI board of directors in March last year .
