ECB official: Italian Post could become partner for digital euro

PANews reported on May 20 that according to Bloomberg, Piero Cipollone, a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, said that Poste Italiane may become a partner in the implementation of the digital euro in Italy. Cipollone pointed out at the ASviS online event that the European Central Bank is looking for partners to complete the "last mile" of the implementation of the digital euro, and Poste Italiane, which has millions of customers, is qualified to provide digital euro access services.

Italian Post is currently one of the 70 institutions participating in the digital euro pilot project. Cipollone revealed that the technical preparations for the digital euro are "progressing rapidly and as planned", and if the legislative process goes smoothly, the first transactions may be launched in mid-2028. In addition to postal services, Italian Post also provides financial services including bank accounts and payments.
