Learning from the best can help us find more effective and efficient approaches. Based on the Twitter data of the top 300 influential Chinese KOLs (as of September 24, 2025), we've summarized some common characteristics of these top KOLs for content creators to learn from and reference.

The top 300 KOLs posted an average of 1.72 original posts per day, with only 0.15 retweets, demonstrating a strong orientation towards originality. They also posted an average of 8.69 replies per day (including both fan comments and KOL replies), demonstrating their strong connection to the community. The engagement rate ((comments + likes + retweets) / number of views) was approximately 1.2%. This metric not only reflects genuine audience engagement but also serves as an important indicator for determining whether KOLs are engaging in inflated traffic.

In terms of content format, "short, concise, and fast" dominated: short tweets (60.8%) far outnumbered long tweets (39.2%) and articles (1.8%), aligning with the underlying logic of the crypto market, "time is value." Furthermore, 81.7% of tweets were accompanied by images or videos, not only to attract attention but also to fully align with the algorithmic recommendation mechanism of the X platform.

In terms of communication effect, the median number of views for a single tweet reached 22,507, indicating a strong reach. In addition, each tweet received an average of 20.2 bookmarks, indicating that its information value was recognized and used for subsequent reference.

Overall, the content ecosystem of the Top 300 Chinese KOLs is more inclined towards high exposure, visual emphasis, and traffic-driven, and their influence is mainly reflected in narrative diffusion and voice amplification, rather than in-depth investment research.

The KOL hot discussion areas are analyzed based on a competency model of the top 300 KOLs. Each KOL's model analyzes their tweets to identify eight most representative competencies. The frequency of these competencies across all 300 KOLs is then aggregated to form this distribution chart. Overall, trading (261 posts) was the most prominent topic of discussion, reflecting the market's intense pursuit of speculative opportunities. Public blockchains (228 posts) and DeFi (211 posts) followed closely behind, demonstrating that infrastructure and decentralized finance remain central to the crypto narrative, offering higher valuation ceilings and a wider audience. Bitcoin (198 posts) and Ethereum (192 posts) were similarly popular, highlighting the long-term influence of leading assets in the market.

Notably, macroeconomics (ranked 182nd) has gradually become a mainstream topic, reflecting the Chinese-speaking community's increased sensitivity to the global economic and policy environment. Meanwhile, AI (ranked 173rd), riding the wave of change, has become a key pillar of the emerging narrative. Security (ranked 159th) has also garnered widespread attention, demonstrating the increasing importance of risk mitigation and compliance in the Web3 landscape where "code is law." Even amidst the impact of new models like Binance Alpha and InfoFi, airdrops (ranked 152nd) have maintained a certain level of popularity, while arbitrage (ranked 132nd), as a unique opportunity in the cryptocurrency world, continues to attract attention.

Overall, the topic structure of Chinese KOLs shows the characteristics of "mainly driven by speculation, with basic assets as the core, and new narratives gradually penetrating."

KOL X account registration time

The trend of KOL accounts is a mirror image of the bull and bear cycles in the crypto market. Looking at the registration time of X account:

Between 2007 and 2015, the number of registered accounts remained in the single digits, indicating that early entrants were extremely rare and the KOL group had not yet taken shape.

From 2016 to 2018, with the rise of the Ethereum ecosystem and the first ICO boom, the number of accounts increased significantly, reaching 16, 20, and 31 respectively, and crypto content creation began to rise.

There was a slight decline in 2019 (19 accounts), but in 2020, with the DeFi Summer boom and the overall crypto market recovery, the number of new KOL accounts surged to 38, reaching a record high of 83 in 2021. This indicates that the bull market cycle saw a large influx of new entrants, and market sentiment and demand for influence reached a peak. The maximum return is calculated by dividing the highest token price during the corresponding timeframe after the post by the token price at the time of the first post. The current return is calculated by dividing the current token price by the token price at the time of the first post.

The changes in KOL win rates over 7, 30, and 90 days show that KOLs' overall profitability is closely tied to market performance, with returns far exceeding those of BTC and ETH.
