PANews reported on January 23 that according to Bloomberg, the Indian Ministry of Technology recently asked smartphone manufacturers such as Apple and Google to allow their official app stores GOV.in to access the iOS and Android app markets, and hopes that these government applications will be pre-installed on mobile phones or available for download through third parties without displaying the "untrusted source" warning.
Currently, Google said it is working with the government to maintain the mobile ecosystem, but did not directly respond to this request. Apple and Google have strict policies to control their app stores and benefit greatly from the 30% app revenue sharing model. Both parties may face pressure from policy enforcement or legal means. India has previously used tough policies to confront technology giants, including banning TikTok in 2020 and requiring Meta to decrypt WhatsApp messages.
