Musk's "cost reduction and efficiency improvement" plan has little effect, and US federal spending has set a new record

PANews March 13 news, according to the Financial Times, the latest data from the U.S. Treasury Department shows that Musk's extremely aggressive efficiency-enhancing initiatives have failed to prevent U.S. federal spending from rising to a record $603 billion last month, highlighting the difficulties the Trump administration has encountered in reducing the size of the government. The Government Efficiency Department led by Musk claims to have saved more than $100 billion, but only a few departments saw a decline in spending in the first month of the new administration. Spending increased by $40 billion year-on-year, or 7%, compared with the same period last year. The new data was released after Musk and members of the department infiltrated several government agencies, including state and health departments, as well as several departments of the Treasury Department. Tens of thousands of workers have been suspended or fired, and thousands of government grants and contracts have been canceled. Musk has repeatedly claimed that the Government Efficiency Department is expected to save $1 trillion worth of funds from the annual federal budget, and said the program is currently being cut at a rate of $4 billion a day. But the monthly fiscal report for February showed that almost no major categories of spending have achieved a significant decline. Treasury officials pointed out that the Department of Education cut spending by $6 billion.
