Report: Ross Ulbricht's Large Bitcoin Donor Is Connected to Dark Web Marketplace Alphabay

PANews June 6 news, according to Cointelegraph, blockchain analysis shows that the cryptocurrency wallet associated with the closed dark web market AlphaBay is suspected to be the source of 300 bitcoins (worth about $31 million) donated to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of "Silk Road". Blockchain analysis company Chainalysis revealed to Wired magazine that these bitcoin donations were traced back to AlphaBay, which operated from 2014 to 2017, earlier this month. Chainalysis speculates that the funds may come from the main supplier of the platform. Independent blockchain investigator ZachXBT confirmed that the funds did not come from "Silk Road" and pointed out that the donors used multiple currency mixing services to cover up transaction traces and cashed out other cryptocurrencies in small amounts, suggesting that the funds may come from criminal activities. However, ZachXBT said that the analysis showed that the money was a "legal donation, but the source of funds was not legal." He said: "The use of multiple currency mixers and decentralized deposits in CEX are usually taken when trying to avoid illegal funds being frozen."

Earlier on June 1, it was reported that the donation wallet of Ross Ulbricht, the founder of "Silk Road", received 300 bitcoins 8 hours ago.
