PANews reported on November 2 that according to Coindesk, a new academic paper published by crypto research firm Exponential Science shows that in some jurisdictions, a total ban on Bitcoin mining may actually trigger an increase in the industry's overall carbon emissions, as affected miners may relocate to new areas with fossil fuel-reliant power grids. Bans in the United States and Europe generally make the situation worse, while Kazakhstan's ban has a positive impact on emissions.
