BitMEX: Support for removing OP_Return policy restrictions from Bitcoin Core

PANews reported on May 7 that BitMEX Research published an article focusing on the controversy caused by the possible removal of the OP_Return policy restriction in Bitcoin Core. The article pointed out that from the perspective of economic reality, miners pursue profit maximization as their goal, and will not consider whether the block contains spam when mining. Moreover, if there are spammers willing to pay a higher price, they can completely outperform other users. The article uses the example of miners profiting more than 7,000 bitcoins from fees related to Ordinals as evidence. BitMEX Research also mentioned that people who run nodes expect to have an efficient memory pool (mempool) to more accurately predict the blocks that miners may mine, which can not only help users receive new blocks faster, but also help them determine reasonable fees for transactions. Based on these considerations, BitMEX Research supports the removal of the OP_Return policy restriction to a certain extent.
